The Mitten
We love mitten activities. They are
great for counting, patterning and all kinds of fun. Here is an
easy way to incorporate some letter recognition into your mitten
activities.
Mitten Match Game

To make the game I copied a simple mitten
clipart picture so I had 52 mittens.
Then I colored them and programmed then
with the upper and lower case letters. *** I colored the trim on the
mittens so that the upper and lower case would be the same, as a way for
the children to see if they had the correct answer. So for example
capital "K" has red and black on the trim and so does
lowercase "k". No other letter would be in the same red
and black that I used for the K's.
I added the title and other decorations
with stickers. The kids are from the Me and My Big Ideas line of
stickers.
I used double stick tape to attach them
to a piece of standard sized tag board. I would recommend
laminating it. Laminate the game board prior to adding the Velcro
and laminate the lower case letters separately and cut them out.
Then I attached sticky back Velcro dots
to the letters. If your Velcro doesn't want to stick because of
laminating it, you might want to try sanding the spot where you attach
the Velcro with a piece of sandpaper. Sometimes this helps. Or you
may try hot glue.
You may want to attach an envelope tot he
back of the game board to store the mittens in.
