Getting Started Outdoor and Nature-Based Learning

Start Small
Go out for small amounts of time to start, and add more time as you get comfortable.

Share your Interests
Start with what you know. Share your passion for things you enjoy doing... gardening, bird watching, what excites you?

Connect with Others
Find a teacher buddy and support each other in teaching outside, join a nature-based learning advocacy group, or visit an online outdoor learning forum.

Keep Trying
Don’t give up.
Give yourself time to get comfortable and to develop your skills.

Be Prepared

Be sure you are adequately prepared. Consider safety protocols, gather materials, and plan ahead.
Readiness = Confidence!
