Start Small
Pick one objective or developmental area to observe at a time.
Be Prepared
Gather materials: a camera, a notebook, and recording forms. Consider having a ready-to-go observation backpack for outdoor use.
Keep it Authentic
Look for opportunities to observe children while they play or in regular parts of their daily routine.
Keep Trying
Don’t give up!
It takes time to feel comfortable and to develop new skills.
Team Up
If possible, ask a teaching partner or another staff member to support other children while you observe.
