Spring Activities for Infants and Toddlers

Spring Sights and Sounds
Take the children on a walk and look and listen for signs of spring. Point them out, name and describe the item, and introduce new vocabulary to children.
Learning supported: language, attention, concept development, stamina

Spring Splash
Look for water puddles outside and invite children to splash in the water with their boots or hands. Talk about what happens when the water is splashed. Where does it go? How high? How far?
Learning supported: language, curiosity, comparing, critical thinking

Mud Makers
Invite children to mix dirt and water to make mud, or to find mud and make muddy hand and footprints, mud pies, and other mud creations.
Learning supported: sensory exploration, imagination, creativity, discovery

Spring Sprints
Encourage the children to run, jump, gallop, skip, crawl, scoot, roll, squat, and move in different ways like different animals.
Learning supported: motor coordination, strength, following directions

Crawling Critters
Find crawling critters like worms, ants, beetles, and squirrels with the children? Wonder about them together, where are they going, why? Make up stories about the crawling critters.
Learning supported: language, observation, empathy, imagination
